Commandment One-45
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”— Jesus, quoting Deuteronomy 6:5 in Matthew 22:37 (NKJV)
The One Command We Keep Breaking
There is a commandment that precludes all others.
It is the first.
It is the greatest.
And it is the one we have continually failed to obey.
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
— Deuteronomy 6:5 (NKJV)
This was not a suggestion.
It was a covenant command.
And it is the commandment that Jesus Himself said was the greatest of all.
Jesus Reaffirmed the First and Great Commandment
When asked what mattered most in the law, Jesus didn’t point to tithing, keeping sabbath, prophecy, or temple worship.
He pointed to the same covenant Israel received:
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
— Matthew 22:37–38 (NKJV)
Jesus did not point to Himself as the object of worship.
He pointed to the Father—to the LORD God.
“I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.”
— John 5:30 (NKJV)“The Father is greater than I.”
— John 14:28 (NKJV)
And He clarified who truly loves Him:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
— John 14:15 (NKJV)
His command was to lead us to the Father, the only true God:
“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
— John 17:3 (NKJV)
The Command Was Spoken Over and Over — But the People Turned
This wasn’t a one-time instruction.
The command to love the LORD your God was repeated throughout Israel’s history—spoken through Moses, Joshua, Samuel, and the prophets.
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him…”
— Deuteronomy 10:12 (NKJV)“But take careful heed to do the commandment… to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments…”
— Joshua 22:5 (NKJV)“Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart…”
— 1 Samuel 12:24 (NKJV)“Return to Me,” says the LORD of hosts, “and I will return to you.”
— Zechariah 1:3 (NKJV)
Yet again and again, the people turned away.
They loved other gods.
They broke covenant.
Just like now.
The Core Problem Has Not Changed
In every age, the greatest threat is not rebellion in the streets—it’s forgetting the LORD in the heart.
Today, religious systems have grown in complexity, but the call remains the same:
Love the LORD your God.
Too often, the emphasis shifts to production, image, or emotional stimulation.
Too often, messages highlight identity, gifting, and breakthrough without calling people to reverence, obedience, or the fear of the LORD.
But we were not called to build empires. We were called to walk with God.
The Same Idols, Still Worshiped
Despite new packaging, the idols of old are still present. They may not go by ancient names anymore—but their influence remains.
Sometimes these idols hide in religious systems.
Other times they appear in daily life.
But either way, they distract us from loving Yahweh with all our heart.
Mammon — the god of money and security
“You cannot serve God and mammon.” — Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)
In the institutional church, success is often measured by budgets, buildings, and influence. Ministries become businesses, and messages become marketing.
Outside the church, mammon shows up as financial anxiety, material obsession, or building a life around personal security rather than trust in God.
Jezebel — the spirit of seduction and counterfeit grace
“You allow that woman Jezebel… to teach and seduce My servants…” — Revelation 2:20 (NKJV)
*Notice that this is spoken to “My servants.” These are the people of God and this is spoken during Revelation in the end of days.
In the institutional church, messages may prioritize emotion over repentance. Passion replaces purity. Correction is labeled as judgment, and sin is softened by spiritual language.
Outside the church, Jezebel lures people into spiritual paths that promote self-love, inner power, or divine femininity—while rejecting holiness, obedience, or the fear of the LORD.
Baal — the substitute lord
“They have forsaken Me and served Baal.” — Judges 2:13 (NKJV)
In the institutional church, Baal is often found when human leaders, emotional experiences, or movements are exalted over the voice of Yahweh. Even revival can become a brand that replaces surrender.
Outside the church, Baal appears in the form of inner gurus, influencers, or spiritual “truths” that bypass the Father entirely and lead people to trust themselves or the universe.
Molech — the devourer of children
“They built the high places… to cause their sons and daughters to pass through the fire to Molech.” — Jeremiah 32:35 (NKJV)
In the institutional church, children are sometimes left spiritually vulnerable—raised in systems that lack power, purity, or truth. They inherit tradition but not transformation.
Outside the church, children are sacrificed to confusion, digital immersion, education rooted in lies, and government control. Their identity is erased, and their innocence consumed.
And Most Tragically… to a False Jesus
Perhaps the most widespread idol is not Mammon, Baal, or Molech—
It is the worship of a false Jesus who claims to be God, rather than the Son who leads us to the Father.
This version of Jesus replaces the very One He came to reveal.
He is upheld by the doctrine of the Trinity, where:
The Son becomes the ultimate object of worship
The Spirit is treated as a separate divine being
And the Father is slowly forgotten
But Jesus never pointed to Himself as God. He always pointed to His Father.
“My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me.” — John 7:16 (NKJV)
“I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.” — John 20:17 (NKJV)
To worship Jesus as God is to violate the very command He upheld.
To worship the Holy Spirit as a separate god is to create another idol.
This is not love for Yahweh—it is the golden calf rebranded in Christian language.
The Only Prophetic Word That Matters
We do not need another wave of predictions, declarations, or social media clip prophecies.
We need to return to the commandment we forgot:
Love the LORD your God with all your heart.
Or you will be given over to the idols you serve.
Love the LORD your God with all your soul.
Or you will be swallowed by the lies you prefer.
Love the LORD your God with all your strength.
Or your strength will fail, and no one will come to rescue you.
Love the LORD your God with all your mind.
Or your mind will be handed over to confusion and delusion.
This is the word of the LORD.
And it has never changed.
What Is Love?
Love for God is not emotion.
It’s not tears in worship.
It’s not attending a church.
It IS covenant obedience.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” — 1 John 5:3 (NKJV)
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:24 (NKJV)
Love looks like this:
Obeying when He speaks
Receiving correction with humility
Rejecting sin even when culture calls it freedom
Walking in communion, not performance
Seeking His face, not just His blessings
“When You said, ‘Seek My face,’ my heart said to You, ‘Your face, LORD, I will seek.’” — Psalm 27:8 (NKJV)
The Temple He Desires Is You
“Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?... I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt…” — 2 Samuel 7:5–6 (NKJV)
God has always desired a surrendered people—not a building.
True worship is not about location, denomination, or tradition.
It is about union with the Father in Spirit and truth.
The gospel is not a license to continue in sin.
It is the invitation to be free from sin—to be made whole through obedience and love.
The Covenant Is Being Offered Again
God is calling the remnant—not to a system, but to Himself.
Not to church membership, but to holy surrender.
“This is the covenant that I will make…I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” — Hebrews 8:10 (NKJV)
“None of them shall teach his neighbor… for all shall know Me…” — Hebrews 8:11 (NKJV)
The First Commandment Fulfills Them All
“On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” — Matthew 22:40 (NKJV)
If you truly love Yahweh:
You will not serve other gods
You will not create false images
You will not take His Name in vain
You will remember His rest
You will honor what He has established
You will walk in life, not hatred
You will be faithful in covenant
You will not steal, lie, or covet
Love fulfills the law.
The Name Matters
The Son came in the Father’s Name.
To reject the Father is to reject the Son.
To replace the Father with the Son is to worship a false god.
“I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me…” — John 5:43 (NKJV)
“But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.” — 1 Corinthians 8:3 (NKJV)
FINAL CALL: Return to the Command That Was First
“Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful…” — Joel 2:13 (NKJV)
Strip away the noise.
Let go of the idols.
Stop chasing emotionalism, systems, and signs.
And return to Yahweh.
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” — Deuteronomy 6:5 (NKJV)
This is the commandment.
This is the measure.
This is the call.
